Larry Bailey

January 22, 1941 — August 7, 2013

L arry Nolan Bailey, of Morrill, Kansas, was released from his courageous nine- year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis at his home, surrounded by family, on August 7, 2013 at the age of 72.


Larry and his twin sister, Shari Ann Kemp Moser, were born January 22 nd , 1941 to Earl Nolan Bailey and Anna Louise Wagner Bailey in Falls City, Nebraska.  He attended Honey Creek schools, the Rock Creek Church, and later graduated from Sabetha High School in 1959. After graduation, Larry and his sister went to work for the Naval Department in Washington, D.C.  Larry was united in marriage to Linda Sue Wenger on February 12, 1961 in Sabetha. They returned to Washington D.C. where Linda also worked in the Naval Department. In 1962, they returned to Sabetha and purchased their first piece of grassland, which began Wolf Track Ranch.

Larry enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the old ways of ranching.  He was a firm believer that horsemanship builds character.  Larry was an avid reader and had a special appreciation of the Old English language, cowboy poetry, and a wide range of music.

He is preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Vince Nolan. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Linda Wenger Bailey and his two children, Selena Brownlee and husband, Steve, and Lafe Nolan Bailey and his wife, Debra. His grandchildren are Sophia and Lillian Brownlee; and Landon Nolan, Grace, Ivy and Eve Bailey. He is also survived by his sister Shari Kemp Mos­­­er and her husband Phil, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 12 th , 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church. Family visitation will be held on Sunday evening, August 11 th , from 6:30 to 8:30 at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.  Pallbearers will be Lafe Bailey, Steve Brownlee and Larry’s six grandchildren. Interment will be at the Albany Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sabetha Boy Scout Troop 77, Morrill Tip-Top 4-H Club, or donor’s choice and sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
