LaVonne Marie (Bauman) Hartter

LaVonne Marie (Bauman) Hartter, 93, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. 

LaVonne was born on January 30, 1931, on a farm north of Oneida, Kansas, the daughter of Edwin Bauman, Sr. and Lillian Mae (Milne) Bauman. She attended Eclipse Country Grade School and graduated from Sabetha High School as valedictorian of her class in 1948. 

LaVonne married Earl Joseph Hartter on August 15, 1948. LaVonne worked at the Sabetha Community Hospital, Summers Market, Hallmark Cards, and Sears, before retiring from Sears in 1982.

Earl and LaVonne enjoyed traveling in their motorhome for many years. They especially enjoyed visiting the Southwest, Alaska, the lower 48 states, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. LaVonne also enjoyed flowers and collecting shells and rocks. 

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cynthia Vermilye; a grandson, Daniel Franco; a brother, Edwin Bauman, Jr.; and two sisters, Beaulah Noble and Rosemary Garber.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Mark (Wanda) Hartter of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two daughters, Deanna (Wayne) Franco of Olathe, Kansas and Suzanne (Doug) Banks of Fenton, Missouri; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sabetha Community Hospital and the Apostolic Christian Home, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, Kansas 66534.
