Lee White

August 8, 1932 — August 19, 2014

L ee Allen White, 82, of Sabetha, KS died Tuesday, August 19, 2014, in his home after a lengthy illness.  He was born August 8, 1932 in rural Richardson County (Honey Creek) Nebraska, the son of Orval and Hester (Henry) White.

Lee graduated from Sabetha High School in 1951.  He served in the military Btry B 84 th FA Bn Mech. from 1953 to 1955.

He married Esther Ione Suhr of Omaha Nebraska at Bethany Lutheran Church in Omaha on May 26, 1957.  Since their marriage they lived on a farm two miles north of Sabetha.  The farm has been honored as a Century Farm by Farm Bureau, and has been in the White family since 1895.

He attended First Lutheran of Sabetha.  He served as Director for the Tri-State Lutheran Church Camp held at Sycamore Springs in the early 70’s.  Lee served as charter members of the Albany Historical Society, as well as the organizer of the Threshing Bee for several years.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Esther White on February 19, 2014; his parents, Orval and Hester White of Sabetha; brothers, Leon White of California, Dale White of Kansas City, Missouri, Ralph White of Denver Colorado  and Lewis White of Brownville, Texas.

Survivors include his children; Tami (John) Rutten of Bossier City, LA.  Todd (Deloris) White, of Steinauer Nebraska,  Terylin (Alan) Keehn of Wetmore, Kansas, Teresa (Curtis) Deckinger of Sabetha,  John White of White Cloud, Kansas, Jeff White of Topeka Kansas, Bill (Charleen) White of Hiawatha, Kansas,  and Joleen White of Texas;  22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, August 25, 2014, at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Sabetha.  Visitation will be Sunday 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  Interment will be at the Albany Cemetery, north of Sabetha.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church in Sabetha, the Albany Historical Society or Valley Hope sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Sabetha, Kansas  66534.
