Lena Strahm

Lena Elizabeth Strahm, 90, of Sabetha, KS passed away April 21, 2007 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

She was born on July 26, 1916 in rural Berwick, KS the daughter of Louis Sr. and Sarah (Hartter) Meyer. Lena graduated from Berwick Center School.

She married Oscar C. Strahm on May 19, 1939. He preceded her death on August 8, 2004.

Mrs. Strahm was a 4-H leader for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and served in various capacities and helped with the children's missionary group and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Lena liked nature and was a talented lady. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, flowers and china painting. China painting was her favorite and she taught the art to others through the years. Lena and Oscar also enjoyed bus tours and traveling.

Survivors include her children, Charlene Smith of Sabetha, Roderick Strahm and wife Glenna of Sabetha, and Lucretia Streit and husband Robert of Falls City, NE; Grandchildren, Thomas Sawyer and wife, Rebecca, Thane Sawyer and wife, Maytee, Brian Strahm, Paige Strahm, Sarah Strahm, John Streit and Emily Streit; Great-Granddaughter, Emerson Sawyer; and brothers, Velmer Meyer, Fremond Meyer, and Ezra Meyer.

Others preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Leroy Meyer, Earl Meyer, and Louis Meyer; sisters Rose Brunner, Mildred Strahm, Leora Baumgartner, and Alberdena Vancil.

A family visitation will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2007 from 7:00 to 8:30 at the Popkess Mortuary chapel in Sabetha.

The funeral service will be Friday, 3:30PM at the First United Methodist Church of Sabetha. Burial will follow at the Sabetha Cemetery.

Memorials may be made either to the United Methodist Church or the Apostolic Home in care of the funeral home.
