Leo Lloyd Malcolm, Axtell, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka at the age of 73 years and four months.
The only son of Lloyd and Grace Malcolm, he was born October 13, 1933 at Lucas, Kansas. They moved to a 900 acre ranch south of Irving, Kansas. Leo attended all 12 years of school in Irving, creating friendships that lasted a life time.
After serving in the U.S. Army he began work as a lineman for Nemaha-Marshall Rural Electric, where he retired after 33 years of service.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Alfers Malcolm of the home; two sons, Ross Malcolm, Overland Park, Kansas and Roger Malcolm, Axtell, Kansas; three step-children, Robert Alfers, Axtell, Kansas, Cindy Alfers, Abilene, Kansas, and Tilly Ann Studdard, Beaufort, Missouri; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd Hugh and Grace Olive Malcolm; his first wife, Betty Hartsook Malcolm; two sisters, Iva Mae Malcolm and Zelliah Stiers;
Mr. Malcolm attended the United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Axtell, Kansas. Pastor Phoebe Pitney officiated. Casket bearers were Mike Stallbaumer, Carl Koch, Stan Broxterman, Kenny Cain, Fenton Norwood, and Robert Perry. Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas. Military Honors were performed by the SMNR American Legion Post #163 of Marysville, KS. There was a visitation Friday evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home in Axtell, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Axtell.
