Leonard Rottinghaus, 80, of Axtell, Kansas, died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at his home north of Axtell.

He was born March 10, 1927 on a farm north of St. Benedict, Kansas, the son of Alvin Rottinghaus and Rose Haverkamp Rottinghaus. He graduated from St. Benedict grade school. Leonard served in the US Army near the end of World War II. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell, 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion Post 214. He farmed at Axtell since 1956. Leonard was a very active and was a very supportive member of the community and church and was known for his outgoing nature. Besides being a devoted father and farmer, he enjoyed spending his time with family and friends, playing cards, quilting and helping his grandchildren. He lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed.

On May 5, 1949, he married Eileen Heiman, who preceded him in death on April 26, 2005 after 55 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert of Seneca.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Haverkamp and husband Carol of Leawood, Kansas; sons, Dan and wife Patti, Tom and wife Donna of Axtell, Kansas; and six grandchildren. Siblings are: Wilbert, Baileyville; Justin, Seneca; Elmer, Kansas City; Galen, Davenport, WA; Regis, Dorothy Fangman, Mildred Heinen, Pasco, WA; Rosie Skeels, Shawnee, KS and Mary Ann Dressman, Frankfort.

A visitation and rosary was Wednesday, Oct. 17 at St. Michael's Church at Axtell at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Frather Albert Hauser O.S.B. celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 am on Thursday, Oct. 18th at St. Michael's Church with Father Thomas Dolezal as concelebrate. Burial was at St. Michael's Cemetery. Casket bearers are: Steven Rottinghaus, Arden Rottinghaus, Roger Holthaus, Terry Rottinghaus, Myron Dressman and Arlyn Holthaus.

Memorials are to be sent to the St. Michael's Catholic School, 605 Elm Street, Axtell, Ks. 66403.
