Les Baumgartner

J ohn Leslie (Les) Baumgartner, 93, of Sabetha, Kansas formerly of Bern, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

Les was born October 27, 1925 in Pawnee City, Nebraska, the son of Lou and Lena (Hanni) Baumgartner. He attended Prairie Star Country School and Bern High School. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. After attending one year of college at Kansas State University, he returned home to the family farm.

On March 27, 1949 Les married Leora Sarah Meyer in Sabetha. They lived and farmed in the Bern and Sabetha communities. Les’ life passion was farming and feeding cattle. He always appreciated his extended family, his Swiss heritage, the Bern community and visiting with his many friends and acquaintances.  Les attended the Bern Apostolic Christian Church his entire life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leora; and his parents.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathy of the Apostolic Christian Home, Jan Baumgartner of Santa Maria, California, Peggy Strahm and husband, Kyle of Sabetha; a son, John Baumgartner and wife, Lori of Sabetha; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother, Leonard of Sabetha.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church. Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, and a Saturday visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church. Interment will be made in the Bern Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
