Lester Marti
August 25, 1921 — April 2, 2008
Lester W. Marti, 86, of Sabetha passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at his home.
He was born the son of William and Martha (Bieri) Marti on August 25, 1921 in Bern, KS. He graduated from Bern High School and in 1946 married Marie Butikofer at Elgin, IA. They lived on a farm near Bern for 55 years before moving to Sabetha, working as a part time tax assessor for Nemaha County, and as a truck driver for Lortscher Ag Service and Keim Transportation.
His sisters, Wilma Marti and Mary Ann Brockoff, of Sabetha and son in law, Roger Fickel of Bartlesville, OK, survive him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie; daughter, Karen M. Fickel; parents, William and Martha; brother, Leroy Marti and sister, Irene Streit.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Burial will follow at Sabetha Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bern United Methodist Church and the Apostolic Christian Home in care of the funeral home.
