Lorene Weick

April 20, 1916 — March 27, 2008

Lorene Weick, daughter of Ray and Emma Schreifer Randolph, was born on April 20, 1916 in Leona, Kansas. She was baptized in the Leona Christian Church on July 30, 1933.
She attended school in Leona and graduated from Leona High School in 1934.


She married Roy Weick on August 15, 1935 in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union were born two children, Galen and Sharlotte.
Roy and Lorene began their married life in Leona, Kansas. In 1943 they move to Sabetha where Roy worked at the Sabetha Creamery and USD #441 until his death in 1982.


Lorene was the first school secretary to work in the present elementary school which opened in 1958. She was the school secretary there for over 16 years and touched many lives and made many friends during that time.


Roy and Lorene joined the Sabetha First Congregational Church in 1950 where Lorene taught first and second grade Sunday school classes for many years and Roy served as usher, deacon and trustee.


Lorene was preceded in death by Roy, her husband of 47 years; her parents, Ray and Emma Randolph; two sisters, Bernice Weide and Norma Kanel; one brother, Raymond Randolph.


Surviving are her children, Galen Weick and his wife Angela of Overland Park; Sharlotte Scoby and her husband, Richard of Sabetha; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and many friends.


Until her health failed, she had an acute mind and unfailing memory of her days growing up in Leona and life in Sabetha. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, positive attitude, and many, many wonderful meals shared around Roy and Lorene's table. She loved her family, her friends, her home, her flowers and the many, many birds that visited her backyard. She will be missed.


Funeral services will be Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. A visitation will be one hour before service time. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels/ Apostolic Christian Home or the Sabetha Community Hospital sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
