Lucille Preston

L ucille Preston, age 92, of Axtell, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka after a long courageous battle with diabetes.   Lucille was born October 11, 1920 in Frankfort, Kansas the daughter of Fred and Tillie (Engelken) Kuckelman.  She married Herman J. Preston August 23, 1941 in Baileyville.  Lucille and Herman lived in the Shawnee, Kansas area from 1944 to 1983 where she was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and was active with the Altar Guild.  In 1983 Lucille and Herman retired in Axtell where she was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  Lucille enjoyed quilting, crocheting and stamp collecting all her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in 2001; along with four siblings, an infant brother Fred Kuckelman in 1934, Danny Kuckelman in 1959, Paul Kuckelman in 2002 and recently John Kuckelman in 2013.

Survivors include her son, Fred (Charlene) Preston of Garland, TX; daughters, Judy (Clint) Perrin of Bella Vista, AR, Jean (Dennis) Falls of Olathe, KS, and Shari (Dennis) Britt of San Dimas, CA; brothers, Mark (Teresa) Kuckelman of Axtell, KS and Albert (Sharon) Kuckelman of Topeka, KS; sisters, Mary (Lawrence) Mueting of Seneca, KS, Rozella (Virgil) Ronnebaum of Axtell, KS, Kay (Mert) of Topeka, KS, and LeNore (Walt) Stumpf of Topeka, KS; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. She will lie in state Friday at the Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home in Axtell from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.   Rosary will be recited Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the church.  Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Baileyville.  Memorial contributions can be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, sent in care of the funeral home, 814 Castle, Seneca, Kansas 66538.
