M abel Helen Bobbitt, 100, of Fremont, Nebraska died Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Fremont Health Medical Center in Fremont, Nebraska.
Mabel was born on November 19, 1914 in Price, Kansas the daughter of Harrison B. Myers and Gertrude Mae (Shaefer) Myers. She graduated from Sabetha High School in 1932. She married Charles Donald Bobbitt on November 2, 1936 and lived in Sidney, Iowa most of their married life of 59 years. After her husband, Donald died in 1995 she moved to Fremont, Nebraska to be near her only son, Gary Lee and his wife, Deborah.
Mabel was a proud member of the Sidney, Iowa American Legion Auxiliary and Sidney Methodist Church. After retiring from the Assessor’s Office of Fremont County in Iowa she spent many years traveling the United States, Spain, Russia, Canada and Austria. Her greatest joy was supporting her son during his years with the Fremont Pathfinder Chorus and having her family around her.
Besides her love of music, she loved people and enjoyed all her friendships at the Fremont Friendship Center. She loved going everyday so she could play Bingo, chair volleyball and playing cards. It was the highlight of her day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; one sister and her husband, Donald. She is survived by her son, Gary and his wife, Deborah of Fremont, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fremont Friendship Center, Sabetha Alumni Association or the Sidney Senior Center sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary 823 Virginia Sabetha, Kansas 66534.
