Maretta Rokey

Maretta Lou Rokey, 67, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

She was born near Sabetha, Kansas on March 6, 1944, the daughter of Roy and Lucy (Marti) Rokey. At the age of 2 she had surgery to remove a brain tumor which left her mentally impaired. She attended National Country School and Sabetha Grade School.
Maretta was baptized in 1967 at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church and then later attended Morton, Illinois Apostolic Christian Church.
As a young adult, Maretta lived several years at Fountain Villa in Sabetha prior to moving to Morton, Illinois in 1974. There she lived in the Apostolic Christian Home for the Handicapped, Oakwood Estates and Apostolic Christian Restmor Nursing Home. With the guidance of the staff at these facilities in Illinois she was given the opportunity to reach her highest level of achievement. She was employed in the office of the Handicapped Home for 17 years where she enjoyed assisting the secretaries. She returned to Sabetha in 2005 at the age of 61 and became a resident of the Apostolic Christian Home.
Maretta was preceded in death by her father in 2002, her mother, in 2005, and a nephew, Ross Rokey in 1984.
Survivors include her brother, Allen Rokey and his wife, Glenda of Sabetha; three nephews, Todd Rokey and his wife Sheila, Brian Rokey and his wife, Denise, Dwight Rokey and his wife, Anita; one niece, Tanya Rokey and 17 great nieces and nephews all of Sabetha. Also surviving are a host of first cousins whom she cherished.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be made in the Bern Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Christian Timber Ridge (Home of the Handicapped) in Morton, Illinois or the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
