Marilyn J. Ehrsam

The family of Marilyn J. Ehrsam, 91, wishes to share the news of her passing on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas where she had lived for the last several years.

Marilyn was born on July 9, 1932, to Maurice and Ruth (Schoenbeger) Bingman.  She attended Martin Country School and graduated from Highland High School in Highland, Kansas.  Marilyn then attended and graduated from Highland Community College in Highland.  While attending college and working as a waitress in a diner in Highland, she met her husband, Don, who was from Bern, Kansas.  They were married on May 31, 1952, at the Highland Presbyterian Church, and were married for 68 years.  They had two daughters, Jackie & Julie.

One of Marilyn’s passions was music, and she had a remarkable talent of playing the piano by ear and she also had a beautiful singing voice.  Marilyn was very active in the Bern United Methodist Church Choir in Bern, Kansas and sang solos at many weddings and funerals.  Marilyn was also passionate about her involvement in the church, and she taught Sunday School for many years.  She also led youth groups and went on many mission trips.

Marilyn also owned two dress shops called the “Inn Shoppe” which were located in Seneca and Hiawatha, Kansas.  She loved going to market, working, and helping and visiting with her many customers.

The family will remember her as an unbelievable cook, whose greatest joy was cooking for her family.  She will be greatly missed!

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Don on December 19, 2020.

Marilyn is happily remembered and survived by her children, Jackie (Ehrsam) Henderson and Julie (Ehrsam) Landon and her husband, Bob Landon; her four grandchildren, Kelly (Landon) and Andy Michael, Amy (Landon) and JD Mynhier, Leslie (Henderson) and Lance Mall, and Trent and Lindsey Henderson; her eight great-grandchildren Sophia Michael, Owen Michael, James Mynhier, Milo Mynhier, Margaux Mall, Parker Henderson, Graham Henderson, and Mabel Mall; and her brother, Kirker Bingman.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bern United Methodist Church.  Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Following the service, a luncheon will be provided by the Bern United Methodist Church.  Inurnment will be in the Bern Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Bern United Methodist Church and the Apostolic Christian Home sent in the care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, Kansas 66534.
