M arilyn Kay Montgomery (Kerl), 69, of Falls City, Nebraska, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 20, 2018, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska. She was suffering from complications after having abdominal surgery. The exact reasons are currently unknown.
Marilyn was born on January 5, 1949 in Falls City, Nebraska, one of three children of Claude and Dorothy (Findlay) Kerl. Marilyn grew up and attended Hiawatha High School. Over her life Marilyn pursued many different career paths to include attending college for medical practice, operating as a traveling sales woman for J.R. Watkins Apothecary, operating a foster home, managing a daycare for children, overseeing livestock operations, and telecommunication sales. She was known for her love of traveling and sightseeing, covering most of the United States and parts of Mexico. While she settled down with her husband, Bruce Montgomery, in Falls City, Nebraska, she lived in many different states to include Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, and Kansas. In 1979, Marilyn and her now ex-husband, Martin Casey adopted their first child, Michelle Richbourg (Casey) in Kansas. Michelle grew up and traveled and along side Martin and Marilyn through their adventures until they stopped in Arizona. In 1992, while living in Arizona, Martin and Marilyn adopted their second child, Meshach Casey. A few years later Michelle left for the Army and in 2000 Marilyn and her son moved to Omaha, Nebraska upon her separation with Martin. Marilyn moved to Falls City in 2001 and would stay in the surrounding area for the rest of her life. Marilyn and Bruce Montgomery would marry in Falls City, Nebraska, and stay at their residence within the town.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents.
Marilyn was survived by her husband Bruce, of the home; two brothers, David Kerl of Hiawatha, Kansas, and Donald Kerl of Rawlins, Wyoming; her daughter, Michelle Richbourg (Casey) of Falls City, Nebraska; a son, Meshach Casey and wife, Lauren of Fort Riley, Kansas; 6 grandchildren: Martin Richbourg and wife, Jessica, Logan Richbourg, Mackenzie Richbourg, Craig Casey, Marley Casey, and Lachlynn Casey; and 1 great-grandchild, Amethyst Richbourg.
A visitation and viewing will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, Kansas. The inurnment will be made in the Albany Cemetery.
