Marjorie Janette Johnson
Marjorie Janette Miller Johnson passed away on Feb. 9, 2010 at Eastridge Care Facility in Centralia, KS. She was born to William H. and Effie May Miller, July 19, 1923 in K.C., Mo. Marjorie attended Vermillion Schools and graduated in 1942 from Vermillion High School. Marjorie married Ralph R. Johnson, Sr. on July 26, 1946 in Marshall County, Ks.
Marjorie worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Marysville and Camp Phillips, Salina, Ks. She then was a clerk for the postal department in Vermillion, Ks and became Post Master in 1983. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Vliets Coop. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Napus, NARFE, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post Starr, Dreher, Piercy at Vermillion.
Marjorie's husband, Ralph, daughters Pamela Jo and Tamara Kay, her parents, William and Effie, her sister Rose, her brothers Roy and Glenn preceded her in death.
Family members left to mourn her passing include sons, Ralph (Johnny) and wife Linda of Auburn, Ks, Gary and wife Vonda of Van Meter, Iowa, daughter, Charissa and husband Daniel Reynolds of Oketo, Ks, 3 Grandchildren, and 4 Great Grandchildren. Her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were the light of her life and she beamed whenever they came to see her.
Marjorie was a perfectionist and excelled at sewing, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, cross-stitch, and many other handcrafts. She loved life, music (Big Band by Glenn Miller), dancing, the Kansas Jayhawks, the N.B.A., crypto quotes and crosswords as well as many other word games. She found politics a wonderful subject to debate with anyone. Her faith sustained her through many difficult times. Her laughter was infectious. Her family and many friends miss her dearly.
Visitation will be on Friday evening, February 12, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Landreth Popkess Mortuary of Axtell, Ks. Church services will be at 9 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Vermillion on Saturday, February 13, 2010. Graveside services are to be at the Vermillion Cemetery following the church service.
Memorials are being left to the her Church, or Abundant Life Hospice.
