Martha Mary Strahm, 99, of Fairview, Kansas, died Monday evening, December 6, 2010 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.
She was born on August 28, 1911 near Berwick, Kansas the daughter of Samuel Beyer and Mary Caroline (Grimm) Beyer. She married Silas Tobias Strahm on March 12, 1933. They lived in the Fairview area most of their lives. Most of her married life she helped on the farm caring for the home and their children. Later she worked at the Fairview Locker for 12 years and then at the Brown County Infirmary for 12 years.
Martha was a member of the Fairview Delaware Baptist Church serving as Sunday school teacher, treasurer and superintendent. She was an active member of the ABW group and especially enjoyed the fellowship of the women. She served as a 4-H leader, was a member of the Quindecin Club and the Rebekah Lodge Jurisdiction of Kansas. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading. The members of her family treasure the pillow cases with edgings crocheted by her and given with love to them. Family was important to her and she looked forward to the winter evening around the kitchen table playing pinochle with the ever growing number of family members.
Preceding her in death were her five siblings; her husband, Si Strahm; her oldest son, Dr. Sam Strahm and a grandson, Blaine Hildebrand.
Survivors include Dr. Sam Strahm’s wife, Barbara of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, grandsons, Greg Strahm, Bryan Strahm and his wife, Alicia of Pawhuska, Oklahoma and granddaughters, Andrea Enloe and her husband, Kim of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a daughter, Mary Hildebrand and her husband, Norman of Stafford, Kansas, grandson, Dr. Randall Hildebrand and his wife, Molly of Great Bend, Kansas, granddaughter, Janell Heyen and her husband, Dr. Bruce of Hillsboro, Kansas and grandson, Jason Hildebrand and his wife, Carrie of Stafford, Kansas; son, Dr. Elgin Strahm and his wife, Sandy of Grove, Oklahoma, granddaughters, Meggan Maravich and her husband, Johnny, Amy Rosiere of Grove, Oklahoma and grandson, Jed Strahm of Los Angeles, California; daughter, Elaine Weigand and her husband, Dr. Joel of Wellington, Kansas, granddaughter, Nicole Foehrweiser and her husband, Jamie of Wiesbaden, Germany, granddaughter, Stacia Weigand and grandson, Toby Weigand of Wellington, Kansas plus 28 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home, Cobble Stone Court or the Delaware Baptist Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
