Martha Unkefer

Martha Ann Unkefer, Age 85, died peacefully on August 29, 2007.

Born November 11, 1921 in Tarkio, MO to Evelyn and Morris Hall.

Martha grew up in Missouri and Kansas and graduated from Fairview High School in Fairview, KS in 1939 and then the University of Kansas after working as a civilian airport radio operator during WWII.

Martha married Robert Unkefer of Fairview in 1946 and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage and family life with their five children and five grandchildren until Robert's death in 2002.

They moved from Kansas to East Lansing, MI in 1956 where Martha lived until her death. Martha celebrated life through her children and grandchildren and faced Alzheimer's Disease with grace and dignity. Her daughter Phyllis was her devoted caregiver.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother-in-law, Vernon Shadel of Sabetha, KS.

Surviving are daughters, Evelyn Unkefer of Topeka, KS, Phyllis (Larry) Shance of Charlotte, MI and Virginia (Douglas Sego) Unkefer of Hong Kong, China; sons, Clifford (Pat) of Los Alamos, NM and Bruce (Irene) of East Lansing, MI; grandchildren, Ryan Shance, Madeline Fry, and Erin, Robert and Phyllis Unkefer; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Shadel formerly of Fairview and Kansas City, KS and currently of East Lansing, MI.

Martha's funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 4, in East Lansing.

Her remains will be laid to rest aside Robert's remains in the Isley Cemetery in Fairview on Friday, December 28, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. The family welcomes all friends to join them at the cemetery.
