Marvena Flentie

January 19, 1918 — June 4, 2007

Marvena B. Flentie, 89, Centralia died Monday, June 4, 2007 at the Community Hospital, Onaga.

She was born January 19, 1918 at Centralia the daughter of William Marvin Murphy and Ellen Marie Armstrong Murphy. She graduated from the eighth grade in a country school in the Eureka School District. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1936. Marvena married Erwin Flentie on August 20, 1936 in Centralia. Erwin preceded her in death on December 29, 2006.

She worked for Yunghans Insurance in Centralia and Seneca for 11 years. She began working at the Nemaha County Courthouse in 1971 and retired in 1982.

Mrs. Flentie was a member of the United Congregational Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship and the Women's Auxiliary of the Armstrong-Moyer Post of the American Legion, Centralia. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, Marysville.

She was married to Erwin Flentie. He preceded her in death December 29, 2006.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Houk and husband, Gary, Maple Hill; two sons, Larry and wife Sharon Flentie, Ft. Collins, Colorado and Erwin E. "Corky" Flentie, Wichita; a sister, Doris Irene Coleman, Sun City West, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding Mrs. Flentie in death were two sisters, Genevieve Marie Patterson and Janice Sue Murphy; two brothers, William Zara Murphy and Derald David Murphy; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; and a great-great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Congregational Church of Christ, Centralia. A visitation will be Thursday, June 7 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home, Centralia. The Rev. Deanna Lewis will preside over the service. Julie Gleason will be the organist. Casket bearers will be Mitchel Flentie, Allan Flentie, Stephen Flentie, Wesley Houk, Joshua Pease and William Cross. Honorary casket bearers will be Dean Luckeroth, Gary Feth, Alvin Kussman, William Murphy, Terry Smith and Shannon Flentie. Burial will be in the Centralia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be left to the First Congregational United Church of Christ at Centralia, KS or to the Marvena Flentie memorial fund which will be designated at a later date.
