Matthew Griffin

Matthew R. Griffin, 31, of Goff died Saturday, March 21, 2009. Matt was born in Emporia, Kansas on December 13, 1977, the son of Robert and Gayle Griffin. He attended school in Sabetha and graduated in 1997.

He worked as a welder for Argabright Welding and most recently for Krogmann Manufacturing. Matt was united in marriage to Carmen Thompson on June 21, 2003 at the First Congregational Church in Sabetha.

Among the many things Matt enjoyed in life were his dogs, hunting, fishing, trapping, and his Ford tractor. During Albany Days in the fall, Matt enjoyed participating in the threshing contest.

Matthew is survived by his wife Carmen; his mother, Gayle Maschewski and step-father, Fred of Fairview; his father, Rob Griffin and step-mother, Wendy of Las Vegas, Nevada; his half brothers, Seth Griffin, Kyle Griffin, and Ryan Griffin of Las Vegas, Nevada; his father and mother-in-law, Darryl and Wilma Thompson of Goff; his maternal grandparents, Larry and Marcia Janzen of Emporia; his grandmother, Wilma Squire of Odessa, Texas; step-grandmother, Noreen Maschewski of Fairview. Other survivors include several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Griffin and maternal grandfather Keith Ruffner.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha. A visitation will take place Wednesday evening 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to the Albany Historical Society or the donor's choice, and sent in care of the funeral home.
