Merlin Lehwald

Merlin "Buck" E. Lehwald the son of Richard Lehwald and Johanna Lehwald was born on November 28, 1931 at Audubon, Iowa.


Merlin was united in marriage to Patty Ann Easton on April 30, 1960 in Audubon, Iowa. They were parents to five children, Cindy Meyer, Tamara Lehwald, Debra Lehwald, Merlin "Butch" Lehwald, Jr. and Doug Lehwald. Merlin moved hid family to Sabetha in 1977 where he spent the remainder of his life. While in Sabetha, Merlin worked for Keim Transportation for many years. He was known as extremely kind, gentle, loving and humorous father, grandfather and friend.


Merlin died on December 8, 2009 at the Sabetha Community Hospital at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elaine and grandson, Shannon Lehwald. He is survived by his wife, Patty Lehwald in Sabetha, his children and their spouses, Cindy and Alan Meyer of Sabetha; Tamara Lehwald of Junction City, Kansas; Debra Lehwald of Sabetha; Merlin "Butch" and Sue Lehwald of Sabetha; Doug and Heather Lehwald of Holton and Diane and Steve Herbst of Fremont, California; his two sisters, Melba Musfeldt of Phoenix, Arizona and Ardella Petersen of Exira, Iowa and 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be Friday, December 11, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sabetha. A family visitation will be Thursday evening 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be in the Albany Cemetery with military honors conducted by the V.F.W. Post #7285 of Sabetha. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, Sabetha Community Hospital or to Playground Partners sent in care of the funeral home.
