Nellie Corbin

April 10, 1918 — April 12, 2009

Nellie A. Corbin was born on April 10, 1918 the daughter of Isaac Corbin and Betty (Williams) Corbin in Las Animas, Colorado. Nellie's parents looked for and longed for what the Bible taught, and after having tried many different churches, in 1919 met and listened to God's servants who brought the Gospel to them when Nellie was one year old. Her parents loved the Gospel Story and began raising their children to also love that story, Nellie grew up knowing she needed to serve God and at the age of 11 decided one day while sitting out on the old wood pile, that she must surrender her young life to God. She said "No one tried to talk me out of it, and after I made my choice known to serve God, no one tried to keep me from it". For 80 years she walked in God's Way, loving His Way more and more as time went on.

In 1951 she opened her heart to her young nieces and nephew (her youngest sister's children) and made them a home when they had none. She became their mother in ways that were most important.

Her home was open to all God's people and for many years enjoyed the privilege of a fellowship meeting in her home. Her fellowship with God's people grew more special to her as days came and went. And in recent years she lived for Sunday when she could go to those fellowship meetings. She looked forward to her Wednesday night Bible Study in the AC Nursing Home and in a quiet room made available to her and a small group that came to meet with her.

Nellie worked for Woods Manufacturing Company from 1943 to 1981 (38 years) as pay roll clerk and office manager. She took early retirement due to the company closing. After one year of retirement she returned to work at Glidwell's Distributing Company as Accounts Receivable clerk and worked there until she was 80 years old. In 1998 she moved to Kansas to be near her niece.

Nellie died on April 12, 2009 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: three sisters; one niece and 2 nephews. She is survived by 7 nieces, Virginia Mahan and Sheryl Mahan of Colorado, Beverly (Raven) Tempest of Arizona, Phyliss Corbin of California, Debbie Corbin of Ohio, Sharon Wells of Arkansas and Gloria Reiff of Kansas; 10 nephews, Jim Clark of Arkansas, Jerry Clark of Arkansas, J.B. Mahan, Derrell Mahan and Mike Mahan all of Colorado, Terry Corbin of Arizona, Eddie Corbin of Colorado, Leslie Corbin of California and Dewayne Corbin of Ohio, as well as a host of friends and acquaintance for Nellie was an "Aunt" to many.
