Nellie Larabee

N ellie Neoma Larabee, 92, of Sabetha died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the Mission Village Living Center in Horton, Kansas.

She was born on September 7, 1924 in Rock River, Wyoming the daughter of Jerry Huston Sanders and Ila Neoma (Hunt) Sanders.  They moved back to Denison, Kansas at an early age.  She attended country schools in this area until in 1936 when they moved to Circleville, Kansas. She attended and graduated from Circleville High School in 1943.

She was united in marriage to Alvin Walter Larabee on September 12, 1942.  They lived on a farm south of Soldier, Kansas until 1949 when they moved to a farm south west of Sabetha.  They moved into Sabetha in the winter of 1979.  To this union was born four children, Bonnie Irene (Larabee) Ralph, Donald Eugene Larabee, Stephen Ray Larabee and Melvin Lee Larabee.

She worked at Midway Café, the Sabetha Hospital and the Apostolic Christian Home where she served the elderly people with love for over 20 years.  She retired in December of 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin on September 24, 1984; a son, Melvin on August 1, 1984; three brothers, two sisters, and one grandson, Travis Larabee.

She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Ralph of Topeka, Kansas; two sons, Don Larabee of Houston, Texas, and Stephen Larabee of Horton, Kansas; a brother, John Sanders; and five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church of Sabetha. Visitation will be Monday, December 19, 2016 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. Interment will be made at the Sabetha Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Wesleyan Church, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary 823 Virginia Sabetha, Kansas  66534.
