Pauline Alberta (Puvogel) Spellmeier, 88, of Fairview, Kansas died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.
Pauline was born on January 18, 1923, the daughter of Richard (Dick) Henry Puvogel and Ida Martha Marie (Brandt) Puvogel. Pauline attended school through the 8th grade at the Union District Country School, south of Hiawatha, Kansas. She then attended Hiawatha High School through grade 11.
Pauline married Marvin Calvin Spellmeier on April 3, 1943. From this union the notable “Five R” children were born: Robert 1943, Roger 1945, Ralph 1947, Reuben 1949, and Rebecca 1954.
Pauline and Marvin farmed while raising their children. Marvin died October 7, 1977. Five years later, Pauline had completed her Certified Nursing Aide training classes in Hiawatha, Kansas, and passed the CNA exam in Topeka. She worked at Maple Heights nursing home for 8 years. She then worked at Oak Ridge Nursing home in Hiawatha for 12 years, retiring in 2001.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Spellmeier; one son, Robert Spellmeier; her parents; one brother, Herman Puvogel; two sisters, Doris, and Marguert, and one grandson, Wayne Spellmeier,
Survivors include three sons, Roger Spellmeier and his wife Jean of Fairview, Kansas, Reuben Spellmeier and his wife Mary Ann of Sabetha, Kansas, and Ralph Spellmeier and his wife Mary of Hoyt Kansas; one daughter, Rebecca Spellmeier-Hollister and her husband Roger of Topeka, Kansas; one daughter-in-law, Melissa Spellmeier of Robinson, Kansas; one sister, Louise Rooney; two brothers, Raymond Puvogel and his wife Retta (Owens) of Hiawatha, Kansas and her twin brother Paul Puvogel of Horton, Kansas.  She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Visitation is Tuesday evening 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Kansas 66534.
