Philip Bestwick

Philip E. Bestwick was born on May 5, 1943 at Falls City, Nebraska the son of Neil Bestwick and Eunice (Bougher) Bestwick. He grew up in the Sabetha area and attended Sabetha schools and graduated from Sabetha High School. After graduation he worked for Keim Transportation and also Koch Trucking both in Sabetha for several years. He was employed by Frito Lay for 10 years and was on Frito disability from February of 2008 until his death. Phil had a heart transplant on August 24, 2008 at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. As soon as he was feeling better he was back at the farm, working scrap and on his old trucks. Even when his wife and the staff at Kansas City, Missouri said take it slow. But as you all know Phil, he didn't know what slow or take it easy meant as he was a very hard worker. Phil was united in marriage to Judy Herold on April 20, 1963. Judy died on March 13, 1988. Philip was united in marriage to Sharon Hartley on October 18, 1997 at Morrill, Kansas City Park. Between Phil and Sharon there was a total of 7 children.


Philip died on May 6, 2009 at the Sabetha Community Hospital at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his parents; a baby brother and his father-in-law, Lawrence Hartley. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Bestwick of Fairview, Kansas; three sons, Mark Bestwick of Sabetha, Kansas, Ron Brook of Fairview, Kansas and Kevin Brook of Billings, Montana; four daughters, Kim Schlatter of Higgensville, Missouri, Ann Bestwick of Sabetha, Kansas, Rhonda Doud of Holton, Kansas and Jenny Baker of Hiawatha, Kansas; one brother, Ron Bestwick of Brandshaw, Nebraska; one sister, Susan Bestwick of Sabetha, Kansas and 9 grandchildren.


Funeral services will be Monday, May 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. A family visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be in the Albany Cemetery north of Sabetha. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Ministries in Hiawatha, Kansas sent in care of the funeral home.
