Phyllis Marie Strahm

Phyllis Marie Strahm, 94, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.

Phyllis was born on May 2, 1931, in rural West Bend, Iowa, the daughter of Silas and Ida (Benninger) Banwart. She graduated from West Bend High School in 1948. On August 19, 1951, Phyllis married Elmer Strahm in Algona, Iowa. Elmer and Phyllis were baptized and became faithful members of the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church in 1955. Elmer and Phyllis had two children, Sonia and Loel.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, on December 2, 2020; her daughter, Sonia Strahm Irwin, on November 18, 2015; her sister, Berniece Banwart; and her five brothers, Archie, Alvin, Victor, Franklin, and James Banwart.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Loel Strahm of Sabetha; her grandchildren, Bryan (Jessica) Cole and Jennifer (Austin) Dinger, both of Topeka, Kansas; her great-grandchildren, Logan Cole and Toni Denner, both of Topeka; her two sisters, Betty Wirtz of West Bend, Iowa, and Caroline Banwart of Morton, Illinois; her brother, Leslie Banwart of Chicago, Illinois; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha. Before the funeral service, a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery in Sabetha.
