R euben E. Spellmeier, 70, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at the Sabetha Community Hospital.
Reuben was born April 23, 1949 in Holton, Kansas the son of Marvin and Paulene (Puvogel) Spellmeier. He was raised in Fairview, Kansas.
Reuben served in the United States Army and was based in Germany. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1970 as SP5. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Rusche on February 5, 1972.
Reuben worked at The Creamery and Wenger Manufacturing in his younger years. He then founded, owned, and operated Spellmeier & Sons, Inc. and hauled milk, rock, and millings for 40 years. Reuben greatly enjoyed his work and the many cherished friendships he formed over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of the home; five children, Mark (Rhonda) Spellmeier, Virginia Russell, Luke (Leslie) Spellmeier, Beth (Eric) Swick, and Danielle (Charles) Fischer; and ten grandchildren, Garrett, Mason and Gavin Spellmeier, Chad and Abbi Russell, Claire and Coen Spellmeier, Emily and Mia Swick, and Hadley Fischer.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha, Kansas. Visitation will be Monday, December 9, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. with rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Interment will be made in the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Seneca. Military honors will be conducted by the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sabetha EMT’s or the Sabetha Community Hospital, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, KS 66534.
