Robert Puckett

R obert Bruce Puckett, 98 of Sabetha died Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.  Bruce was the oldest son of Bert and Rosa (Ryun) Puckett was born on July 21, 1914 at Abilene, Kansas.
He grew up at Abilene and attended the Abilene schools and graduating from the Abilene High School in 1932.
He married Gladys Kauffman on October 30, 1938 at Abilene, Kansas.  To this union was born on son, Robert Bruce, Jr.
He lived all of his life in the state of Kansas and was a Life Member of the Native sons and Daughters of Kansas.
Bruce was associated with the A.L. Duckwall Stores Co. as a manager in several towns in Kansas, for forty years before he retired in 1979.  Twenty years of that time he managed the Sabetha Duckwall Store.
During World War II he served for two years with the 132 nd Railway operating Battalion in Europe.
In 1950, while living in Pratt, Kansas he was chosen by the Pratt Joyce Organization as the outstanding Young Man of the Year.
Bruce was an active member of the Sabetha United Methodist Church.  A 50 year member of the John L. Palmer Post #126 of the American Legion, and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #162, A.F. & A.M., Sapphire Chapter #348 Order of the Eastern Star, and a Past President of the Sabetha Chamber of Commerce.
After his retirement he worked part time at the Hughes Clothing Store and part time for the Methodist Church.
Bruce is survived by his son, Robert Bruce, Jr. and his wife, Terri, one granddaughter, Emily Rose Puckett, one grandson, Nathaniel Bruce Puckett all of Castro Valley, California; a sister-in-law, Betty Puckett of Hoxie and two nephews and two niece.

Memorial service will be Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha.  The inurnment will be in the Abilene, Kansas.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Apostolic Christian Home sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Sabetha, KS  66534.
