Robert "Bob" Chase

R obert “Bob” Chase, 63, of Sabetha died Monday, September 30, 2013 in Topeka, Kansas.  He was born on November 9, 1949 the son of Earl L. Chase and Loretta J. (Klein) Chase in Sabetha, Kansas.

Bob grew up on a farm and attended the Fairview schools.  His senior year he attended Powhattan High School.  He grew up playing all sports.  This included baseball, football, track and basketball.  In basketball he twice scored over 40 points during a game.

Bob received an Associate’s degree in business from Highland Community College.  He furthered his education at Emporia State University where he graduated with a BA in business.

Bob enjoyed music, so much so that he and his brother, Richard, played together in several different bands over the years.  Later on in his life he taught himself how to play the keyboard.  At Christmas Bob and his Uncle Charles entertained everyone at family gatherings.

After he graduated from Emporia State University, he owned and operated a Standard Gas Station in Wichita.  Later on in his life, he moved back to Sabetha to be with family and friends.  There he purchased Koch’s Motel and operated it for 27 years until his retirement.  At that time he found the love of fishing and driving his cars.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl L. Chase.  He is survived by his mother, Loretta Chase; his siblings, Richard Chase, Carol Schuertz (Dale), Susan Milne (Jon) and Stephen Chase (Debra) and numerous nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews and other cherished loved ones.

Funeral service will be Friday, October 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview United Church of Christ.  A family gathering will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the church.  The interment will be made in the Powhattan Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview United Church of Christ or to Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium (NMTRC) funds sent in care of Popkess Mortuary 823 Virginia Sabetha, Kansas  66534.
