Roger K. Shear, 74, of Sabetha, died December 14, 2011 at his home.
Roger was born June 16, 1937 in Horton, Kansas, the son of Kenneth E. and Jessie M. (Snapp) Shear. The family moved to Hiawatha when Roger was a young child, and he graduated from Hiawatha High School.
Roger married Jeanne K. Shaw on June 8, 1958 at First Methodist Church in Sabetha. They spent the majority of their 53 years of marriage residing in Sabetha.
Roger was a member of the Hiawatha Elks Lodge for many years. He spent his lifetime working as a mechanic. He worked many places, and began his career working with his father as a child and ended his career as a partner with his brother at Shear Auto Repair and Supply in Hiawatha.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne. He is also survived by his daughter, Sarah O’Sullivan of Oakland, CA, and daughter, Peggy Shear and her fiancé, Bob Martin, of Gardner, KS, and their children, Kayla Shear and Jake Martin.
He is also survived by his brother, Gary Shear and wife Sandy; sister, Cathy Koenig and husband Rick all of Hiawatha; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Popkess Mortuary Sunday, December 18, 2011, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Sabetha. Burial will follow at Albany Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund at the United Methodist Church in Sabetha and sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
