Roy Dannevik

Roy "Danny" Dannevik was born in Centralia, KS on November 3, 1912 to Percy and Mary Quakenbush Dannevik and died on August 15, 2008 at Eastridge Care Home surrounded by his family. He attended Boardman Country School and Centralia High School, graduating in 1930. At an early age, he developed an interest in and love for sports, playing baseball, basketball, and football. He received recognition for the 35 years he was a member of the football chain gang at CHS, and in 2000 he was chosen "Fan of the Year." He was also honored in 2004 as Grand Marshall of the July 4th Parade in Centralia.

Roy was a loving and caring husband and father who treasured the friendships of many people in northeast Kansas. He farmed near Centralia and Axtell for twenty years, then became the school custodian and bus driver for the Centralia schools. In later life, he and his wife were resident employees at Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home. He was a member of the Centralia United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served on the Board of Trustees. He was also a former member of the Centralia Booster Club, Couples Bridge Club, and the American Shorthorn Association.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lucrenia Smith Dannevik, who also resides at Eastridge; two daughters, Nancy and Bud Boston of Plymouth, MN and Margaret Ann and Jerry Luebbe of Centralia; five grandchildren, Brent and Lisa Boston and Blake and Kelly Boston of Plymouth, MN, Stacy and Bruce Glatczak of Wichita, Shelli and Brett Wimberly of Vermillion, and Shane Luebbe of Centralia; and nine great grandchildren, Will, Jake, Drew, and Kate Boston, Kohl, Maura, and Elly Glatczak, and Miles and Gage Wimberly. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph and George Dannevik, and sisters Hazel Walters and Ruth Johnson.

A visitation will be held at Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home on Sunday, August 17, from 4-6 PM and the funeral service will be on Monday, August 18 at 10:30 AM at the Centralia United Methodist Church. Reverend Deborah Hanes-Nelson will conduct the service. Pall bearers are Brent Boston, Blake Boston, Shane Luebbe, Bruce Glatczak, Brett Wimberly, Roger Dannevik, and John Walters. The organist is Janelle Glatczak, and the soloist is Pam Bachman. At his request, the service will be concluded with his granddaughter Stacy and his great grandchildren leading in the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." Inurnment will be at a later date in the Vermillion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Centralia High School for the Dannevik Scholarship Fund or to Eastridge Care Home and sent to Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home, Centralia, KS 66415.
