Rudolph Wenger

Rudolph "Rudy" Wenger, 99, a resident of the Apostolic Christian Home at Sabetha died on March 20, 2007. He was born near Powhattan, Kansas on May 28, 1907 the son of Gottlieb Wenger and Elizabeth Aegerter Wenger the 12th of 13 children. He graduated from Powhattan High School, attended Kansas State College and married Mary Josephine Troutt on August 19, 1934 at Birchtree, Missouri. She preceded him in death on June 23, 1989.
Rudy farmed and was a cattle feeder in the Powhattan community many years. He was a member of the Powhattan Methodist Church, where he was a lay leader, taught Sunday school and served on the administrative board. He also served on the Powhattan School board and was a 4-H leader. The extension service of Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science awarded Rudy and Josephine the Kansas Balanced Farming and Family Living award in 1951. In 1960, they moved to Manhattan where he worked as a receiving clerk at the Kansas State University Student Union before retiring. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan many years before moving to Sabetha.
Survivors include four sons, Gilbert Wenger and his wife, Maryln of Powhattan, Kansas, Herbert Wenger and his wife, Arva of McPherson, Kirby Wenger and his wife, Chris of Manhattan, Rick Wenger and his wife, Rosalie of Topeka; a daughter, Naomi Cashman and her husband, Maurice of Topeka; a sister, Magdalene Hinman of Greensboro, North Carolina and 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Powhattan United Methodist Church. A family visitation will be Friday evening 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The inurnment will be in the Powhattan Cemetery at a later date and time private by the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Powhattan United Methodist Church, Manhattan First United Methodist Church or the Apostolic Christian Home sent in care of the funeral home.
