Ruth Elaine (Sumner) Allen was born on October 14, 1929, the daughter of Melvin Sumner and Bertha (Nichols) Sumner at Soldier, Kansas. She was the 6
th
of 8 children born to this union. She grew up in Soldier, Kansas and attended Soldier public schools. She married William H. Allen on December 8, 1951 at Seneca, Kansas. Three children were born to this union.
Ruth died on Tuesday, December, 21, 2010 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William H. Allen; two brothers, Harlan Sumner and Robert Sumner; three sisters, Gertrude Staehli, Sue Curtis and Betty Sackrider. She is survived by one son, Louis Allen of Bonner Springs, Kansas; two daughters, Carolyn Lamme of Everest, Kansas and Connie Zeit of Troy, Kansas; one brother, Russell Sumner of Osawatomie, Kansas; one sister, Maxine VanDonge of Holton, Kansas and 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday, December 26, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. A visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. The interment will be in the Oneida Cemetery at a later date and time. Memorial contribution may be made to the N.E.K. Multi-County Home Health & Hospice sent in care of the funeral home.
