Ruth Puckett

Gladys Puckett, 90, of Sabetha, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Apostolic Christian Home.


Gladys was born the youngest daughter of John A. and Bertha (Engle) Kauffman on August 12, 1917 in Abilene, Kansas. She grew up in Abilene and attended Abilene schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1936. After High School, she worked for the A.L. Duckwall Company.


She married Robert Bruce Puckett on October 30, 1938 in Abilene, Kansas. To this union was born one son, Robert Bruce Jr.


She lived her whole life in Kansas and was a life member of the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas. She was a homemaker and also worked part time at the jewelry store in Sabetha for twenty years. She was a member of Chapter EB, PEO Sisterhood for 35 years, a member and past Worthy Matron of Sapphire Chapter #348, Order of the Eastern Star and was an active volunteer in a number of social and community organizations.


Gladys was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, belonged to the Church Task Force and the U.M. Women of the Church.


Gladys is survived by her husband, Bruce Puckett of the home; son, Bruce Puckett Jr. and his wife Terri; a granddaughter, Emily Rose; grandson, Nathaniel Bruce all of Castro Valley, California and three nieces.


A memorial service will be Monday, March 31, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. A visitation will be one hour before time at the church.


The inurnment will be in Abilene, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Sabetha Community Hospital sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
