Ruth Weeks

January 30, 1932 — June 17, 2018

R uth Pauline (Rundus) Weeks was born in Concordia, Kansas on January 30, 1932 to Joseph F. and Z. Alberta (Opocensky) Rundus. She was the middle child and only daughter in the family.  While growing up on a farm south of Blue Rapids, she attended the Gamefork Country School, and then graduated from Blue Rapids High School with the class of ’49.  She married her high school sweetheart, Marvyn Weeks on June 10, 1951 when he returned home after serving in the United States Navy.  To this union were born three children: Susan, Julie, and Mark.

Although her primary career was a homemaker, Ruth worked in Marysville for the ASCS office, served as a bookkeeper and clerk for Blue Rapids Lumber Company, and finished her employment career working for Blue Rapids Auto and Hardware.  Ruth was a member of the Czech Presbyterian Church until its closure when she then transferred to the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids.  While serving in the church, she was an active member of the church choir, assisted as a Sunday School Teacher, and was an instructor for KYB.

In addition to working and being a homemaker, Ruth also served as Secretary for the United Presbyterian Church, and also played the piano and organ for church services. She was also active in UPW, Ladies Circle, Bible Study, and Card Club until her illness prevented her from attending.

Ruth was an amazing cook, but her folded kolaches, and pineapple rolls were the best! She was also an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed needlework, puzzles, reading, and music.  Her love of music was passed on to the next two three generations of her family. Marvyn and Ruth especially enjoyed, and very rarely missed attending their grandchildren’s athletic events, music programs, and other activities, as family was always a priority.

Ruth passed away at Community Healthcare Onaga on Sunday, June 17, 2018. Those preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Alberta; her husband, Marvyn; and her two brothers, Robert and Frederick Rundus.

She is survived by her children and their families: Susan Calander, Jacob and fiancé Samantha, and Elizabeth; Julie Gleason and her husband Brent, Trevor and Amber Gleason, Hudson and Jolee; Tanner and Sammy Gleason, Tessa, Layla, and Luxa, Tyler Gleason, and Joanie and Jamie Hosfelt and baby “H”; Mark Weeks and his wife Christy, Aubrey Weeks, Landon and Jayme, Hunter Weeks, and Hamony Weeks.
