Sharon K. Gruber

Sharon K. Gruber, 77, of Hiawatha, Kansas and formerly of Morrill, Kansas, passed through heaven’s gates on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas with her family by her side.

Sharon (Steele) Gruber was born on July 21, 1946, to Robert and Gloria (Gaston) Steele in Sabetha.  She grew up in the Morrill community and was a member of the Morrill Church of the Brethren.   Sharon attended school in the Hamlin school system, and she graduated from Hamlin High School in 1964.  Sharon was married to Robert Gruber on November 7, 1965, at the Morrill Church of the Brethren.  They were blessed with two children, Todd and Marci.

Sharon worked at Country Mart in Sabetha as the deli manager for many years.   Then, she accepted a position in the dietary department as a cook at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.  It was in this capacity that Sharon shared her enormous talent for and love of cooking with the residents and staff until her retirement.

In 2008, Robert and Sharon moved from their rural Morrill home into the city of Hiawatha, Kansas, and Sharon enjoyed her new home so much.  Sharon also enjoyed shopping and her numerous trips with family to Estes Park, Colorado.

Sharon will be forever missed by her family and friends who will never forget her beautiful smile, her contagious laughter, and her compassionate personality that was filled with love for others and for the Lord.

Sharon, your family and friends will think and talk about you often as we reminisce and share our memories of you.  You will never be forgotten.  We will always hold you close to our hearts where you will remain as you walk beside us and guide us through this life.  Until we meet again…

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Ronnie McGuire.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Robert; her two children, Todd (Jana) Gruber and Marci (Mike) Perdew; her three grandchildren, Megan and Luke Gruber and Spencer Perdew; her sister, Karen McGuire; her brother, Mark (Faye) Steele; her nieces and nephews; and her many friends.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at the Morrill Cemetery in Morrill, Kansas.  Prior to the graveside service, a visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, Kansas.  Memorial contributions are suggested to a fund yet to be designated by the family.
