Shelia Kay Mitchell

Shelia Kay Mitchell, 68, of Seneca, Kansas passed away on January 24, 2023, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. 

Shelia was born on January 17, 1955, to Richard and Ruby (Anderson) Brower. After graduating from Nemaha Valley High School, Shelia worked various jobs prior to her 40 years as Food Service Director for the school district in Seneca. 

Shelia was known for her kindness and great sense of humor. She had a passion for cooking and showed her love through food. She enjoyed watching sports and cheering for the Wildcats. 

Sheila is survived by her four children, Nicki (Wilson Thomas) Nance of Olathe, Kansas, Ryan (Dana) Huerter of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Tara (Matt) Johnson of Lenexa, Kansas, and Chelsea (Trevor) Schulte of Manhattan, Kansas; her six grandchildren, Malik, Amiah, Hailey, Taden, Tanner, and Addison; her one great-grandchild, Khaleesi; and her brother, Mike Brower of Guntown, Mississippi.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Popkess Memorial Chapel in Seneca, Kansas.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Memorial Chapel.  A private family inurnment will be held at the Seneca City Cemetery.  The Shelia Mitchell Memorial Fund has been established to support the costs of snack time milk for early elementary students at the Nemaha Central Elementary School.  Contributions to the fund may be sent in care of Popkess Memorial Chapel, 814 Castle Street, Seneca, Kansas 66538.
