Taya Mooney

I t is with great sorrow we announce the passing our sweet Taya Lynn Mooney, 6, of Sabetha, Kansas.  She was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.  Taya was born on March 25, 2015 at Hiawatha, Kansas the daughter of Chris Mooney and Alaina (Rumbaugh) Mooney.

Taya truly lived every day to the fullest.  She never knew a stranger, meeting everyone with unconditional kindness and love.  Taya had a strong faith in the Lord and a passion for serving others, caring for animals, always by her sister’s side, drawing, playing with her barn set, and keeping up with her social life.  Anyone who met Taya knew how enthusiastically she laughed, loved, and lived.

She is survived by her parents; her sister, Emery; her maternal grandparents, Darron and Sheri Wessel and David Rumbaugh; her paternal grandparents, Jimmy Oom and Shelly Mooney.

Taya will lie in state and viewing will be open to the public on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha with visitation being held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.  There will be no further viewing or visitation opportunities for the public after Sunday, August 1, 2021.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha, Kansas.  Following the private family funeral service, the funeral procession will leave Sacred Heart Catholic Church at approximately 11:30 a.m. and proceed down Main Street to the Sabetha Cemetery.  The family would like to invite the public to gather along Main Street for a balloon release in honor of Taya as the funeral procession proceeds to the cemetery.  Interment will be private for family only in the Sabetha Cemetery.
