Theodore "Ted" Lee Remmers

Theodore “Ted” Lee Remmers passed away at University of Kansas Medical Center on Friday, December 8, 2023, surrounded by family.

Ted was born to Alvin and Gretchen (Grussing) Remmers in Pawnee City, Nebraska on July 25, 1953.  Ted graduated from Sabetha High School in 1971. During high school, he participated in athletic organizations including football and baseball while also singing in the Sabetha High School Chamber Choir.  He also participated in numerous other clubs and organizations.  During his school years, Ted formed many lifelong friendships and people are in awe of the lasting relationships that developed and remain intact today.

After his time at Sabetha High School, Ted attended Butler County College in El Dorado, Kansas where he completed general education studies. Ted married his high school sweetheart, Joan Deaver, on August 13, 1977.  Ted and Joan had been married for 46 years.  They have three children and eight grandchildren. Ted was known as a devoted husband, loving father, and a proud grandfather.

Ted’s professional career began as a salesman with Mac Equipment in 1976 and he worked in pneumatic conveyance for 25 years, watching Mac Equipment grow from a small community-based company into a publicly owned international operation.  His work with Mac Equipment eventually moved his family to Las Vegas, Nevada for three years and then the family relocated to Platte City, Missouri.  Ted left Mac Equipment in 2001 and joined CamCorp Incorporated where he worked in project management and sales until his retirement in 2017.

Ted joined the Catholic Church in 1988 and was active in the Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City, Missouri.  His service to the church included three different parish financial committees and he also served as a liturgical minister.  He was instrumental in the building of new churches including the new Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha, Kansas, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City, Missouri which have served thousands of Catholic faithful.  Ted was devout in his faith and found great comfort in God’s divine plan.

Ted was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoyed spending time at games with Joan and watching his favorite teams. In his retirement years, Ted loved traveling to see the mountains and the ocean.  He was fortunate to travel with Joan to the British Virgin Islands, Europe, Hawaii, and throughout most of the continental United States.  Ted especially enjoyed traveling with three of his eight grandchildren on their “10-year-old” trips including one to Alaska and another to Wyoming.  Ted looked forward to planning trips with the other five grandchildren.  At the top of his list of retirement hobbies was watching his grandchildren’s activities and cheering them on from the sidelines.  His grandchildren will miss his “tickle finger” that would send them running and giggling.  Ted enjoyed playing golf, gained many friendships, and developed a love for the game.  Eventually Joan joined in on the golfing and they enjoyed playing many different courses together. Ted was frequently playing Cribbage wherever he went while teaching many generations about the art of the game and chasing the perfect hand.  His love and competitiveness for the game will never be forgotten.

Ted was proceeded in death by his parents, Alvin and Gretchen Remmers, and his brother, Dean Remmers.

Ted is survived by his wife, Joan Remmers; his three children, Emily (Derek) Ackart, Kevin (Leah) Remmers, and Molly (Caleb) Dixon; his eight grandchildren, Hayden and Jax Ackart, Rowan, Holden, and Sloan Remmers, and Harper, Cooper, and Wren Dixon; his three brothers, Stan (Patty) Remmers, David (Cindy) Remmers), and Steve (Kathy) Remmers; his sister-in-law, Chrys Remmers; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Twelve Apostles Catholic Church, 17900 Humphrey’s Road, Platte City, Missouri 64079.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m. at the Albany Cemetery, north of Sabetha, Kansas.  Online condolences can be left for the family on the Rollins Funeral Home website at https://vaughnfuneralhomes.com/ or at the Popkess Mortuary website at www.popkessmortuaries.com.
