Truman Wayne Nusbaum was born on February 27, 1931 in Bern, Kansas. He enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 1950 and then later retired after a long career in the Air Force in June of 1972. After the military he returned to Sabetha, Kansas and started working as a truck driver for Consolidated Freight, where he worked for 20 years. He and his family moved to the Kansas City, Kansas area in 1976 and then later to Edwardsville, Kansas. He loved fishing and spending time talking and drinking coffee with his friends.


Truman died on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 79. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law, Keith Null in 1989 and one grandson, Tim Kloss in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice Nusbaum of Edwardsville, Kansas; three daughters, Debra Kloss and her husband, Edward of Hiawatha, Kansas, Terry Klapmeyer of Hiawatha, Kansas and Dixie Brown and her husband, Jon of Edwardsville, Kansas; one sister, Donna Leitschuck of Beatrice, Nebraska and 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be a 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha, Kansas. Family will receive friends for a visitation 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be made in the Bern Cemetery in Bern, Kansas.
