Twyla Dale Landreth

Twyla Dale Landreth, Axtell, died Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Life Care Center of Seneca.
She was born November 5, 1927 at Beattie the daughter of Arthur VanDorn and Florence Palm. She was graduated from Vermillion High School in 1945. She was confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church in 1941 and had been a life-long member there. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle of the church. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1945.
During the war years Twyla worked at the radio factory in Marysville, Kansas. She had also worked at the Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca for a number of years. Mrs. Landreth held a Master Funeral Director's License and had worked alongside her husband Bill at the Landreth-Thornburg Funeral Home, which they owned, and later at the Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home, Axtell.
She was married to William "Bill" Landreth at the Salem Lutheran Church, November 18, 1947. He survives at the home in Axtell.
Other survivors of Twyla include two sons, Forrest Landreth and his wife Cathy, Decatur, Illinois and Travis Landreth, Overland Park; two brothers, Gale VanDorn, Vliets, Kansas and Gary VanDorn, St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 10:30am at the Salem Lutheran Church southeast of Axtell. There was a visitation prior to the service 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Rev. Christine Iverson conducted the services. Iris Turnbull sang "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "How Great Thou Art" with Shirley Polson accompanying on the organ. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were be Jason Landreth, Scott Landreth, Danny VanDorn, Darin VanDorn, Dennis VanDorn and Randy VanDorn. Honorary casket bearers will be Dave Winquist, Gary Ronnebaum, Larry Miller and Kevin Hoskins.
Memorials are being left to the Axtell Library or the Salem Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home in Axtell is in charge of arrangements.
