Vernon C. Roush, 83, of Sabetha and formerly of Morrill, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home.
Vernon was born in Morrill, Kansas on January 24, 1928 the son of Charles Roush and Ruth (Miller) Roush. Vernon was married to Marjorie Allen in 1948. They divorced in 1967. From this union, three daughters were born. Vernon was a farmer and stockman north of Morrill. In 1965 Vernon made a career change. He purchased a dairy business that transported farmer’s raw milk to Mid-America Dairymen in Sabetha. Opportunity presented itself with the purchase of wholesale dairy distributorship “Sweet Clover”, in 1971. Vern built the business up and retired from Roush Delivery in 1990. He continued to work alongside his son Lonnie Jones until he moved to the Villa in Sabetha in 2009.
Vern’s love of horses lead him to join the Sabetha Saddle Club and the Pony Express Trail Ride.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Roush of Sabetha; three daughters, Roxane Robinson, Kay Howerton and her husband, David, and Mary Jo Roush all of Topeka, Kansas; one step-daughter, Marla Jones of Overland Park, Kansas; two step-sons, Kent Jones and his wife, Sharron of Salina, Kansas, and Lonnie Jones and his wife, Phyllis of Morrill, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marion Roush of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Sam Roush and his wife, Janice of Morrill; two sisters, Wanda Bonham and her husband, Dyce of Olathe, Kansas, and Wilma Lehmann and her husband, Robert of Nashville, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. The interment will take place at the Morrill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morrill Parks and Recreation, sent in care of the funeral home.
