Virgil Hartter

October 12, 1918 — July 29, 2015

V irgil William Hartter was born October 12, 1918 on a farm southwest of Sabetha to Benjamin M. Hartter and Mary (Meyer) Hartter.  He passed from this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.  He grew up in the Bern area where he attended grade school.  He helped with the family farm and did day work for neighbors.  In October of 1939 he was converted and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Bern.  On February 20, 1944 Virgil married Marie Bahr and they made their home and raised their family on a farm northwest of Sabetha.  Virgil also worked at Wenger Manufacturing for nine years then owned and operated Hartter Seed & Feed until he retired in 1985.  Virgil and Marie moved into the Apostolic Christian Retirement Village on June 20, 1998.

Virgil is survived by eight sons; Roger, Dennis, Timothy, David and James all of Sabetha, Robert of Roanoke, Illinois, Jerome of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Douglas of Atchison, Kansas; four daughters, Verona Strahm of Sabetha, Jane Isch and Judy Kraft of Gridley, Kansas and Teresa Kellenberger of Sabetha along with their spouses; two brothers, Lester and Clyde Hartter; two sisters, Erma Priest and Lavonne McGinty and 58 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha.  Visitation will be Friday evening 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  The interment will be made in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home or the Apostolic Christian Church sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Sabetha, Kansas.
