William “Bud” Chester, age 85, of Sabetha, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Sabetha Manor.
Bud was born in Monogahela, Pennsylvania on February 6, 1925 to Lindzey and Helen (Stewart) Chester. Bud was united in marriage to Lois Mae Houston on February 17, 1948 at the Appanoose Baptist Church in Pomona, Kansas. Pastor Bud was an ordained minister for 52 years and served numerous Baptist churches throughout Kansas. In addition to his ministerial vocation, Bud worked as a school teacher for 40 years. Of those 40 years he spent 19 of them working in special education. One of his passions in life was playing horseshoes where he still holds numerous titles in the state.
Survivors include his wife Lois; three sons, David Chester (Shelley) of Florence, Oregon, Mark Chester of Fairview, Kansas, and John Chester of Ulm, Germany; two daughters, Terrie Alexander (Fred) of Crown Point, Indiana, and Bettymae Hannigan (Keith) of Tonganoxie, Kansas. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 at the mortuary. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodlawn Baptist Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
