William Hanzlik

W illiam Leroy Hanzlik, 83, of Centralia passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Eastridge Nursing Home in Centralia.

He was born February 14, 1930 in Cleburne, Kansas, the son of William and Elizabeth (Hula) Hanzlik.  William graduated from Centralia High School in 1948.  He had a nickname all his life which was “Cotton”.  William was a farmer until he started working at the Centralia schools as a janitor up to his retirement.  He was married to Alice Armstrong of Vermillion, they later divorced.  After retirement he worked at recycling scrap metals.

William was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Hanzlik. Survivors include his son, Steve (Brenda) Hanzlik of North Platte, Nebraska; daughter, Tresa Bolin of Salina, Kansas; sister, Gloria Nightingale of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service is Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centralia Community Church, formerly the First Congregational Church in Centralia.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Centralia Cemetery. Casketbearers are Doris Armstrong, Lonnie Forgy, Brandon Forgy, Lance Forgy, Troy Swanson, and Justin Swanson. Memorial contributions can be left to Centralia Schools or the Eastridge Nursing Home, sent in care of the funeral home, 814 Castle, Seneca, KS 66534. Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home in Centralia is handling arrangements.
